We are not afraid of storms

“I am not afraid of storms, for I am learning how to sail my ship.”

― Louisa May Alcott, Little Women

The evolution of women has been forever a battle; Our journey has not been an easy one. We have had to face countless storms in a raging sea. Meanwhile, other population sectors had a more easy journey because it is not the same to worry only about arriving to your destination, that to worry about that plus the complications of a storm in the rough sea and survive.

Our history shows us many women who have fought for our rights, who are constantly learning how to sail their ship in front of every new situation they face because it is not over yet, It is far from over. Nowadays, thanks to our fighters in the past, we live a very different life, but still, we need to keep fighting for gender equality.  In general, women have a different perspective than men; maybe because since we are born, society has put over our shoulders more responsibilities. We have to learn how to deal with our family and work. Perhaps because of that, we think and feel more, we are less (visceral), and we are always thinking about how our actions can help others; it is in our nature. It is funny, but it is true.

When I became a mother, I stopped working (professionally), and I was delighted working as a mom. After few years, the time arrived, and it was time for me to come back to the field, and I was very excited too, and don’t get me wrong, it is not that I don’t love my kids, but I need to fill this part of my life that makes me happy too. Daily life is different for me than for my husband, and I am putting myself as an example, but I am sure that many women have the same exercise like me. Working means that I will have to do multiple things simultaneously to manage my house and my job; for my husband, although he does a lot in the house, he doesn’t do all the activities while he is working; it’s way different.

I am not complaining, I love what I do, but life for women is always heavier. It is incredible how hard worker women are and all the fantastic things we achieve.

Professionally, there are always more obstacles in a women’s path than in a man; you have to double the effort, make your voice be respected, and be taken seriously. It looks like a joke that in 2021 gender equality it is not right yet, but it is true. Usually, the woman has to take more responsibilities for her family and home; meanwhile, men typically worry only about work.

We have seen that countries governed by women have managed better the COVID pandemic, among other things; why? Because we have a broader vision, women in power always think in their people, in their team; it’s in our nature. We are not moved so much for individuality; we always think about everybody, making women good leaders. The way to gender equality is shorter every time; we are fighting for it, new generations will keep on doing it. What we do right now will be the future for our children. Let’s teach them right so they can make it right. We, women, have the responsibility to respect the work of our ancestors, be true to ourselves, and keep walking the path to equality. We must show our vision, our honesty, and our leadership in every job we do. Let’s keep growing, keep fighting, and keep making our organizations unique; together, we can thrive. “Watch and pray, dear, never get tired of trying, and never think it is impossible to conquer your fault.”
